Three Months

The cut the cord experiment is three months and counting. The photo below is the 8 bay antenna that we installed on the side of the house and our location provides half a dozen digital TV channels via an ATSC tuner. In addition we have a streaming and PVR setup that involves two dedicated (and quiet) PCs with a Roku and a 3rd Generation Apple TV box.

In Canada, most networks provide online access to full shows the day after they are broadcast, in addition, we have subscribed to a digital VPN which provides worldwide on-demand access to shows from global networks.

So much telly, so little time!

Lunch impending

We're smiling because we know the Black Bean cafe is only ten minutes away. Today it was a delicate homemade curry lentil soup with doorsteps of fresh bread.

Shoreline

Walking almost parallel to Marine Drive we found the sea cooperated and gave us a narrow walk down the shoreline. We've tried this before but were thwarted by the Pacific, today however, conditions for passage were just right.

Grantham's Landing and back.

Today the weather is continuing, and actually improving, we walked "Reed Road Right" down to Grantham's Landing and then decided to walk along the shoreline into Gibsons.

Love is in the Air

The world is a buzz with birds absolutely everywhere, here in the tree at the top of Mountain View are a pair of what we believe to be purple finches, they're nest building and I was lucky to grab this great photo.

Tufty Club

At the end of our walk, someone was very verbal about us getting too close to his personal beachfront property.

Nuts!

Trek

I took a picture from the car park, our walk would take us right to the very tip of the bay shown here, half of the walk was on the road and when that disappeared, we finished the rest on the beach.

After a two hour walk we scurried home for a cheese sandwich and a sly beer as we watched qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Esplanade

Down at the Esplanade today, excellent weather, I actually am sun burnt after our two hour walk, lots of wildlife about, a couple of adult bald eagles flew quite low over us, managed to grab a half-decent snap of one of them.

We're calling it...

It's official, we're officially declaring it spring, it's here and it's about time.

Mind you, I think we're well ahead of the game as far as spring is concerned, both here and from other parts of the planet. I hope that all those snow plows that we sent over to the UK are being put to good use.

Today, down at Quality Farms, it was obvious that they are gearing up for the rush.

Harbour Plan

They are starting to pound in a few big supports at the Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority. Exciting times as we will see some big changes down at the front in the next few months, and, if the hotel plan is approved, a massive construction project in our harbour.

Anniversary

This was a habit of Graeme Wright and Doug Varley back at the landing gear emporium, for some reason they insisted on the precise counting of days and the creation of a certificate or some other banner to celebrate the passage of time.

Well, today, we have been officially retired, unwashed and unworking and generally doing exactly what we want at any given moment of the day for a grand total of two-thousand days.

Which is a record for us...

John Deere

The digging is in full swing over on the last remaining vacant lot on our junction, after the end of the working day a trio of deer came nosing around and at least one of them probably noticed that the digger has their name on it, sort of.

I fully expect that these guys will be back in the black of night, wearing balaclava's and driving the excavator away to their local fence, trading in carrots and fresh hosta I bet...

Murder

A murder of Crows down on Marine Drive yesterday as we headed to the Black Bean for fresh coffee and a muffin. North Shore Mountains in the background showing off their winter plumage.

Watermark

A view of Davis Bay, in the distance you can see the ongoing construction of the Watermark development.

The place looks big on the front street in Sechelt, but from Davis Bay, it looks insignificant.

Red Tailed Hawk

About fifty yards up the road this morning we spotted this guy, perched on top of a hydro pole.

I walked up again with the old house trousers on, looking like I'd just got out of bed (not far off) and took a few pictures. We think this may be a juvenile Red Tailed Hawk, at first we thought it may be an Osprey, but the patterning and form is not right. The next picture in flight shows good wing and wingtip definite.

Exciting stuff as we approach spring.
