Answers on a postcard please

This guy decided to land right in front of me when I was taking the Shannon Falls photo, allowed me to select macro and shoot a couple of sharp pictures thank you very much.

About two and a half inches wide, butterflyish.

Shannon Falls

After two nights in Whistler we drove back (before the holiday weekend) and stopped off at Shannon Falls near Squamish. at around 1000 feet, probably the tallest waterfall we've seen since Niagara Falls.

The Lodge

The Lodge at Glacier Creek was about 600 metres downhill from the ski lift, the powder on top of a 300cm base was about 30cm or more but fortunately, our experience in 2003 made us bring our boots, the walk down was strenuous, a couple of beer and an hour rest and then, that 600 metres felt like a mile on the way back, again, fortunately climbing hills is a daily thing in Gibsons.

Funny thing was, a lot of people turned back at the 200 metre mark as the lodge was obscured by those trees on the right.

Dangling

Here's an example of coolness, dangling your feet off a ski lift at around 5000 feet elevation.

Blackcomb

The highlight of the year so far, a trip up Blackcomb Mountain. unfortunately the peak to peak was closed, but that worked in our favor. We took the Excalibur Gondola up, followed by the Excelerator Express open lift to a short half kilometer trek through snow to the lodge at Glacier Creek, elevation 5069 feet.

Gray Jay

Whistler Mountain was closed but Blackcomb Mountain was open until May the 30th, so we took advantage of the bargain sight seeing pass ($23) and went up on the Gondola and the Ski lift. There was intense activity with people on skis and snowboards, we had our good boots on and made our way to the lodge for a beer or two. This is the second encounter we had that day with a Gray Jay.

This guy was about two feet away from our table.

Eight Years

It had been eight years since we have been to Whistler, back in July of 2003. There has been a lot of development there, especially because of the 2010 Winter Olympics. We think the place has improved dramatically, lots to see and do.

Somewhat pricey, but bargains (food and beer) to be had along with a couple of supermarkets to buy cheese.

This was an obvious photo opportunity:

Tuesday

No paddle as we were off up to Whistler. We stopped early morning in Squamish and ended up having some elevenses at the Howe Sound Brewing Brew Pub. As you can see, we were first to arrive and had the place to ourselves, it filled up a bit before our second beer.

That's a tiny Karen there in the corner.

Clean Up day

A large group of the Gibsons paddle club assembled on Saturday to clean up the compound. It is an area donated by Gibsons Marina and once a year we all roll our sleeves up and give it a spring clean.

Shovel this!

Six thousand one hundred and eighty kilograms of 7/8" (22mm) Reddi Rock. This is destined for the back yard, I don't know why Karen is smiling, it's going to take her a long time to shovel...

Ok, I will help with trips to the beer store for rations.
