Bloody Tourists

He ran down the side of the house and across the front garden, I ran through the house, barefoot, across the driveway. He stopped for a short while to look at the car and the funny human with the camera.

Five point Friday

That's five points, not pints.

This chap strolled through the back yard this morning before breakfast and was civil enough to allow a photo or three. Something spooked him and he ran around to the front of the house. This is the pre-spooked portrait.

Crab Crunchies

A walk along the bay, rock pools abounded and every rock held a secret, this little guy was about a centimeter across, tiny. Stark contrast to what we witnessed the day before with large, two hundred centimeter crabs being extracted from a trap in the marina.

Ugly Duckling

This pretty little chap was amongst a large group of mallards on the lagoon, in addition there was a very elegant, and tame, swan who was very interested in what was going on.

Smaller, with red eyes and different colors from the "nomal" ducks, a young wood duck perhaps.

The Old Dorm

The reason we chose the Old Dorm was it's location, a ten minute walk from Snug Cove, it was an amazing bed and breakfast, very laid back, clean and modern with a fantastic, healthy breakfast. Highly recommended!

Snug Cove

This was our first visit to Bowen Island, an overnight stay in an oasis of tranquility. The smaller ferry took us into Snug Cove from Horseshoe Bay, a twenty minute journey and a feeling of a home away from home.

They had a little hydraulic issue with the ramp, that was sorted and we looked back at Horseshoe bay from the cove.

Baked Goods

This is a further experiment in the home made bread laboratory, Muesli whole wheat flax and bran bread. The basic whole wheat recipe was augmented with about four ounces of "Bob's Red Mill Old Country style Muesli" with an ounce of self ground flax and two tablespoons of bran.

And yes, it makes great toast.

Wiggly Pole

Simple, walk out twenty feet and grab the flag, only one contestant (volunteers from the crowd) managed to beat the wiggly pole.

Tea and a slice.

And the Pink Floyd references continue...

Let the games continue..

After all the unscheduled excitement, the logger sports continued with log burling, axe throwing, sawing through logs and of course the wiggly pole. Here the gumboots are on for a preliminary burling competition :

Medivac

The young man was stabilized by local first response and paramedic teams, then the BC Ambulance Helijet landed on the tight shoreline at Gramma's pub, he was loaded in and then probably taken to Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver.

Careful with that Axe Eugene...

The logger sports were delayed when one of the contestants took an axe in the ankle, it glanced off the fixed log and went into his boot, this was the start of what was probably a very interesting day for the chap, apparently it was very serious and a medivac chopper was called.

The Fraser Blues

The Fraser Blues delivered fifteen minutes of some of the best aviation formation flying that general aviation pilots (civilians) can offer, a great display over Gibsons Harbour to a good crowd at the grandstand erected on the Government Wharf.

Sea Cavalcade

The tradition of blowing up an old wooden boat and frightening all the marine life (including a lot of the residents) continues at the start of this years Sea Cavalcade.

Yard Work phase 35/1000

We had another three yards of bark mulch delivered and finally finished off the trail at the left side of the house, lots of weeding that will now be less. I suspect that work on the right side of the house is about to begin...

Low Flying Dinosaur

As we walked down to Marine drive a large Blue Heron flew right over our heads, a common sight but something we never take for granted, today my camera was ready and I was quick enough, they keep us on our toes you know.

Daily Visitors

There have been more deer this year, this young lady was over the road on the vacant land. Karen informed me that a three pointer strolled through the back yard yesterday looking all majestic, of course it dodged any photo opportunity.

Sandcastles

I came over all poet like walking along the beach in Whitby Bay:

Buckets and spades
Memories to be made
Life in a balance
With no one to save

It harks back to a time when we were young, when adult worries and the world's problems had not crept in and innocence abounded, a time of rock pools, sandcastles and plastic sandals.

Salad days.
