Ospreys

While having lunch at the Lighthouse Pub in Sechelt, we noticed what we thought were two bald eagles fishing in Porpoise Bay. The flight patterns of the birds appeared strange at first and we noticed that there was a lot more underbelly white on the pair.

It became apparent, as soon as they started to hover and dive, that these enormous birds were something other than eagles and we have discovered that they are a pair of Ospreys. We went back the following week and there they were again.

This is a web image, we'll take the camera and see what we can snap next time.

Terminology of the week, two point and three point bucks stopped by in our garden for a chomp on some shrubs. They seem to be ignoring the hosters this year though.

A very hot day, and both our cats appeared to have been dropped from a great height. Here is young Benjamin, watching me faff about taking pictures of him.

Shilo

Next doors cat, Shilo, on our garage roof.

It seems that the previous owner of the house kept this window open, Shilo would get up on the roof from our steps at the back of the house and pay a visit.

The Cleaners

Every day now, we have what we call the "vacuum cleaners" strolling through our back yard, they erase any trace of wild bird seed from our various feeders.

Our cat, Ben alerted us to two intruders, here is one caught in the act.

Northern Flicker

As the weather warmed slightly in January, we lost the snow and four or more Northern Flickers started competing for food in the garden. Here a male partakes at one of our feeders, bright red cheeks, whereas the females had no such markings.

Varied Thrush

This is a varied Thrush, we had a pair of them, male and female, feeding in the back yard after quite a snowfall. In the following weeks we had about seven or eight of them, running around the yard, flipping leaves to find insects and partaking of our bird feeders.
