Deforestation

The second lot across the street has been sold and there have been men with trucks looking at it this morning. This can mean only one thing, there will be the sound of chainsaws in our immediate future.
There are two building lots there, the first is owned by our neighbour, Bruce, who bought it so that no-one would build on it. The second lot, with the trees, was sold about two months ago and we suspect that building permits are being applied for, it will be a shame to lose trees, but inevitable.

I'll take pictures as the project unfolds.

Keeping up with the Butterworths

In December, after buying my PS3 we continued shopping around Granville Island and popped into a Barnes and Noble where I was fingering a Nook eReader, priced at $149 with 100 free books. True, those free books were all public domain, but nevertheless, it seemed like a reasonable gizmo.

However, we'd just spent over $300 on the Playstation gizmo.
Here in February, news from abroad drifted in that Patricia Butterworth had received a Kindle for her birthday, well, that was the straw that broke the camels back, there was little doubt that my tiny Dell Axim reader with it's four inch screen would have to be replaced.

The Kindle is supported by free 3G in Canada (the Nook is not) so here it is and I've jumped into Asimov's Foundation series.

The question over time will be that you can lead a camel to water, but can you make it read?

Seasonal Affective Disorder

It was an ice breaking day again yesterday, the cold air made me want to cough and we both felt a bit tired, but an hour and thirty seven minutes of paddling made us both feel more alive in these winter blahs.

Lots of low cloud in the harbor today, more evidence that there is a conspiracy to keep the sun away from us.

Meep Meep

We found one of these in the spare bedroom, it was a surprise that the cats had not had it on toast.

(we didn't really)

Slow week, I have the flu and my good woman is looking after me.

Breaking the Ice

Yes, stalwart champions of the elements, we braved Howe Sound this morning, an extended paddle out to Hopkins Landing.

It was the first time we have ever been in an outrigger and used it as an icebreaker, there was a thin layer of ice in the marina today and it was quite an experience to slice through it on our way out to the sea.
