Friday Visitor

We were outside in the front garden, extending the shrub bed when I saw a great blue heron fly into our tree, as usual I had no camera, so I dusted myself down, took my boots off and raced into the house to grab it. Karen kept watch and surprisingly, the heron was still there when I returned.

In the drink

As we said goodbye to Halfmoon Bay, a fearless dog, with a single focus, entertained the pair of us for a few minutes, choosing huge pieces of driftwood to dig around and bother.

We drove off, further up the coast to the Grasshopper Pub for the usual pitcher of "house" beer. Stopping briefly on the way back to collect a few rocks for the garden.

Burrows Goldeneye

Halfmoon Bay was alive with elusive birds, elusive to the camera, not the eye. The best I could do was to snap a google of Burrows or common Goldeneye, fleeing from my lens.

I know its not google, the technical term for a group of Goldeneye is a grasp. Google it if you don't believe me.

Other birds that escaped the camera included several grebes and what we thought was an osprey, diving around in the bay while being chased and divebombed by almost every other flying object.

Picnic

The sandwich was a simple one, fresh bread out the oven that morning, thick cut cheese and olive oil margarine, hey, have to keep it healthy.....

The location, first off was a place called Halfmoon Bay, we drove down to where the Historical General store was, parked up and trolled off along the beach. The sandwiches disappeared somewhere along the way, along with a few chunks of fresh cucumber, grown here on the coast.

Daily Bread

It is a suitable weekend to be making bread, here is our first attempt and by golly it tastes good, fresh out of the oven. We will attempt a few cheese sandwiches soon and travel up to Madeira Park for a picnic, maybe stopping at the Grasshopper Pub for a jug of beer.

3 Cups of Whole Wheat Flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1-1/2 Tablespoons sugar, 2-1/3 teaspoons of Fleischmanns rapid yeast, 3/4 cup water, 1/4 cup milk.

Easy. Add one cup of flour, salt, yeast and sugar in a mixer bowl, microwave milk and water for 60 seconds and add, mix for two minutes on medium. Hand add the rest of the flour, Kneed for about five minutes on a bread board and shape into whatever takes your fancy. Cover with a tea towel and set aside for 45 minutes. Rub a little olive oil gently onto the top of the dough, preheat oven to 400 degrees and just bake for 25 minutes. Cool on a rack. Slice.
